Visual art has been my life long love, forever encouraging alternative perspectives, and inspiring authentic creative expression. In 2011, I completed a Bachelor (Hons) in drawing & painting, Art History Minor at OCAD University, Canada. Where I was fortunate enough to experiment with a range of mediums, study anatomy from cadavers and live for a year in Florence, Italy.
After graduating I turned my brush to glass, a medium from my adolescence and this was when I truly found my passion. The ethereal relationship between light, colour and glass always creates a unique experience, not only offering an engaging personal quality but an environmental transformation.
To broaden my material experience I continued training with a variety of hot and cold glass techniques at Glass Craft, Canada and this would be the beginning of my stained glass career. In 2014, I returned to Europe to begin a stained glass apprenticeship at Vetrate Artistiche Toscane, Italy. In a medieval setting, I studied traditional painting and restoration techniques, while designing and fusing modern projects.
Later that year I was granted the Ashton Hill Award by The Worshipful Company of Glaziers & Painters of Glass, England. This included an advanced painting course with Jonathan Cooke and a chosen in depth conservation placement at Holy Well Glass.
Between 2015- 2017 I worked exclusively for Reyntiens Glass Studio as a painter, conservator and technical specialist. One of the exciting projects included the conservation of the Royal Gallery and Norman Porch, Palace of Westminster. Thereafter I continued to freelance on a project basis for various stained glass artists and studios again as a glass painter, conservator and glazier.
In 2017 I funded myself a two week artistic work experience with glass artist Mark Angus in Austria & Germany. We visited numerous glass studios, exhibitions and factories including the awe inspiring Glashütte Lamberts. But best of all I liberated my painting approach and found my genuine expressive painting style!
I had the opportunity to discover and compare different cultural and environmental perspectives on glass in Australia. When in 2018 I worked with Perth Art Glass on a number of projects including the restoration of a set of West windows by Gowers & Brown. It was in this year that I won the Reflections of the Lord Mayor competition, I was so excited to use the extensive studio facilities at PAG to make the commission. The following year, I was granted the honour and responsibility of joining the Reflections of the Lord Mayor judging committee and in choosing the 2019 competition winners!
Working with glass in different countries has been a huge benefit. I have met many wonderful craftspeople and have loved collaborating on ideas and techniques. In 2019 I worked with Sauvarins Coloured Glass in New Zealand. Here, I trained in the Antique Silvering of glass, a rare and inspiring process. Later that year, I was fortunate to be awarded the Continuing Professional Development Grant by the Worshipful Company of Glaziers & Painters of Glass to further my creative silvering at Saligo Design.
An important part of my artistic practice is to get creative when in-between projects. Usually, I visit my local stained glass studio for this and when in England I have the pleasure in working with Lead & Light, London. This studio access has been crucial in digesting new ideas and exploring learnt techniques. For the past number of years, I have been volunteering for the British Society of Master Glass Painters, mainly assisting with events and fundraising; I am now an elected Member of Council. I am excited to have received Second Place in the Design Category for The Stevens Architectural Glass Competition 2020, hosted again by The Glaziers & Painters of Glass.
In 2021, I worked for Daedalian Glass Studios as Senior Technician, mainly sculpting bespoke decorative features in wax and casting in glass. Since then, I have been creating new work, collaborating with Environmental non-for-profits and freelancing for creative studios. I look forward to growing with the glass community and in contributing to the industry now and in years to come. I am always happy to communicate, so if you have any questions about potential collaborations or commissions, please do not hesitate to send me an email!
